Publication of Family Stories Written by Young People
The Grannie Annie Family Story Celebration invites
students in U.S. grades 4 through 8, and homeschooled and international students
9 through 14 years of age, to interview their family storykeepers and write a
story about something they discover from their family's history. When the
stories are brought to life in written form, they can be shared with others and
preserved for future generations. Each year selected stories are published in a
new volume of Grannie
Annie -- so students have a chance to become published authors!
Complete details, including guidelines and the required
submission form, are
available at TheGrannieAnnie.org. There
is no submission fee, and the annual submission deadline is February 1. The Grannie Annie website also includes resources to
help with the writing and submission process and to enrich the Grannie Annie
experience for everyone involved.
Before students write their stories, it would be helpful for them to read
stories that The Grannie Annie
has already published. The stories are entertaining, inspiring, and
thought-provoking. They bring history to life, giving vivid personal accounts of
life in the "good old days" and often providing an insider's perspective on
historic events. Having taken place on six continents over a span of nearly 400
years, the stories connect readers with people from different places and
different times. In addition, stories in the Grannie
Annie collections are indexed so
that readers can easily find those on particular topics. This makes it easy to
enrich curriculum with personal family stories.
The Grannie Annie collections
make wonderful gifts for
relatives, students, teachers, librarians -- almost anyone on your gift list! |
