Portico Books offers two free e-mail (text only) newsletters to help people enjoy the English language and use it effectively.

Acu-Write

Acu-Write, sent about twice a month, is a valuable resource for business people, report writers, newsletter editors, copywriters, anyone wanting to use English correctly. It helps eliminate the errors that can be a source of miscommunication and embarrassment, and can sometimes even cost money. Each issue clarifies points of frequent confusion involving word use, punctuation, capitalization, or sentence structure.

LinguaPhile

LinguaPhile, sent about four times a year, is aimed at people who teach and/or enjoy English. It is particularly beneficial for teachers and parents, who bear the formidable responsibility of imparting communication skills to future generations. Regular features include teaching tips, book reviews, vocabulary enhancers, Q & A about English, inspiring quotes, puzzles, and more.

Author/Editor

The author/editor of both newsletters is Fran Hamilton, author of Hands-On English. In addition to her work as writer and editor, Fran has twenty years of experience as a classroom teacher. She has taught students of all ages -- from kindergartners to adults. She has a B.A. in English from Lindenwood University and an M.A. in Education from Washington University in St. Louis. She holds lifetime teaching certificates in English, Reading, and Learning Disabilities.
